Football Jig

Football Jigs are bottom contact lures known to have erratic lure action due to the jig head design and from bouncing off hard bottom and rock cover with a drag retrieve. Although several lure types use a football style jig head, football jigs are generally unique for a skirted lure as it is dragged over hard bottom.

Anatomy: Football Jigs lures are skirted lures which feature jig heads that look like a football and include a heavy weedguard followed by a full skirt plus a single thick wire hook. Typically the lure is rigged with a soft plastic trailerThe football jig head shape keeps the hook and soft plastic trailer vertical when lure is at rest on the bottom reducing snags.  For skirted lures the football jig has a larger profile.

Variants & Other Names
